St. Francis Prayer...

Recommended Posts

My heart loves this prayer very much:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love.

Where there is injury, pardon.

Where there is doubt, faith.

Where there is despair, hope.

Where there is darkness, light.

Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;

to be understood, as to understand;

to be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.

This is a lovely prayer, though not actually written by St. Francis of Assisi. If memory serves me, it is a product of the nineteenth century. It fills my heart with joy.

Thank you for posting it, Jeff!

I love this too.  When I was living in Findhorn, and improvising on the paino a lot, I sang this one day.  It felt beautiful, from the heart

I have a frame little thingy with the beautiful Brother sun Sister moon inspired movie star St Francis on one side and the prayer on the other , when my grandkids visited ,i wasnt too well ,but i wanted to love them fully and unconditionally, the little one at the end of there stay picked it up and said Nesta Read it to me ,with her perched on my knee I did and as I got to the end I truly felt the last line and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life in my spirit cause I had really given out that weekend, she then played with my cross and tree I have on my chain and I said to her, remember the movie last night, (the Velveteen Rabbit) must see, how they said Love is what makes life real ,and she said Yes Love is what makes Life real , God bless her little spirit...:)
